Filling up $40 at a time makes it hard to see how much driving for apps really costs in fuel. This calculator turns your miles and MPG into a per-shift, weekly and monthly number, and shows what share of your pay goes straight into the tank.

Finding your real MPG

The MPG on your car's window sticker is measured in ideal conditions. Delivery driving, with lots of short trips, idling and city traffic, is often 10–20% worse. To find your real number, fill the tank, reset the trip meter, drive normally until your next fill-up, then divide the miles by the gallons you put in.

Ways to spend less on gas

• Use a gas price app and fill up at the cheaper stations on your usual routes.
• Don't idle for long stretches while waiting for orders. Park and shut off the engine when you can.
• Keep tires at the right pressure. Low tires quietly lower your MPG.
• Stay close to busy restaurant areas instead of driving around looking for orders.
• Decline offers that send you far out of town for low pay. Check them with the order checker.
